Choices Not Made by yiota

Yep, I'm commenting on my own fic. Why? Because it spends as much time driving me insane as other people's fics do, even more sometimes.

I just published chapter 4 today. Now that was a nightmare of a chapter. I had to re-write the thing about a million times over. And of course the only thing people comment about is that Snape has 14 kids. The one thing that has stayed the same. It's not even particularly that interesting either. Well I suppose it is in a way, because it's not entirely true.

At least I published chapter 4, I'm still trying to write chapter 9. Heh. I wrote an outline in which Harry goes to the Library again. That's it. I'm supposed to make at least 1,000 words out those 6 words. Maybe more if you add with Orion, Justin and Aaron. See there that's 11 words. Now I just need 989 more to make a chapter out of it. The thing is without the lack of those 989 words chapter 4 would never have been what it is today. You see I gave up and decided to write Snape's journal. Which didn't work but did show me that Chapter 4 Snape was completely OOC.

You know what I just realized. I'm going to have to go back and edit chapter 4 again.
Parseltongue-tied by DementorDelta

The only bordering on bestiality fic that I will ever like. At least I certainly hope so. This fic is fantastic. In fact I can't name anything I don't like about it. Well minus the whole bestiality thing... But I like that too. Does that make me a bad person?
The Art of Peace by Ueshiba

Now this one is definitely getting a little fuzzy. But almost everything I have to say about it is pretty positive. It's one of those Harry runs away so he can become so much more powerful fics. The author has created a set of rather realistic original characters. The canon characters also manage to stay in character which is always a positive. I tend to like Snape's reactions to things in this story. Harry is currently somewhere in the orient which is something I tend to dislike almost as much as I dislike him being in the US or Canada. I tend to think my respect for the author drops immensely the minute the characters touch the author's home base. Well unless of course the author is british.
Havoc of the Opera by Roman

This is one of the stories out there that I'm keeping an eye on. It's been a while since I read it from beginning to end so I may be missing some things. It's not bad though the beginning was better, the interaction between Harry and Snape at least in the beginning was pretty good. The thing with Hermione keeps it interesting. I'm a little more confused by the whole one night of Harry's but it might be because it's over done and I didn't like it to begin with, this story certainly didn't help that any. Another problem was the sudden relationship between Hermione and Draco. The beginning Ron and Hermione seemed pretty serious about each other. With all the teen "angst" thrown in. It seemed rather sudden when she gets together with Draco, a person with whom she had no chemistry with during the first half and Ron's just fine with it.
Howl For Me by Savage Damsel

Now this is seriously depressing. This is one of the better stories on fanfiction.net out there at the moment. And It has every single cliche in existance. Harry is raped by his Uncle. Harry turns into this super powerful and magical were-animagus creature. Becomes best-friends with a suddenly repentant Draco Malfoy. Needs to have sex with Snape to save the world and manages to get over his rape in less than a week to do so. Not only that but at one point says he has a hard time being touched by anyone while the previous chapters have him in bed with Snape and Remus and Malfoy and rough housing with Ron and Hermione. And yet with all of that. I actually managed to get to the last updated chapter. I think I'm going to cry.

A Bittersweet Potion and Procul His by Alchemia Dent and Bugland

This is a good ongoing preslash story. The writers as a combination are a very good team. The pacing is fantastic in this story. I've never seen such realistic development in a relationship between Harry and Snape. Most stories either have the two jump into a loving relationship from the one they have in OOtP or have them form a relationship in pre-story. This will get them there but they'll have to get there on their own. The story also has a wonderful and unique plot. Main difficulty with the story is they aren't always that great at showing things the way they want them to. There are a couple instances in the story where they showed something and said it was entirely different than what the reader was shown. I really hope they work on this in the future.
Death Eater Takes a Holiday by Lee Lee Potter

This story I would definitely recommend, it's got a creative story line and a relatively good writer. It also has no recognizable plot. There's no telling when this story will end as there is no indication as to what it needs to do to get there. The title made a lot of sense at the beginning, but it's been a while and the holiday is long gone. My conclusion: Where ever this story may be going I'll be reading it when it get's there.
I thought that maybe I should use this space for reviewing and recommending fanfics! Great idea in my opinion at least. I'm a ranter, I hate bad writing. I'm not saying that I'm a great writer. But I've been told by many that I'm a natural for recognizing it when it's good. Why? Because I love to read. I've read it all, good bad and ugly. Believe me I'm not too shy to tell someone that they should just give up and find a new hobby. Well I suppose they could keep their hobby just not inflict the rest of us with it until they get a little better. Maybe when their remedial junior high English professor gives them a passing grade on creative writing. Then of course there are some who are actually good at what they do.

Testing again? As my last blog disapeared.

Editing to say it's gone.
I'm starting a blog, obviously. Mostly I suppose because I like to rant on various things and hope that some poor soul will read my words and be instantly enlightened. Chances are though that some one bored out of their mind will run across this and lose interest by the third word. Either way, Cheers!
